BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — Crews battled a barn fire on Friday afternoon in Monkton in northern Baltimore County, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.
On July 31, at around 4:47 p.m., the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire alarm at the St. James Academy, a private school in Monkton.
Upon arrival to that location, crews investigated, and spotted a large column of smoke to the north, in the area of Old York Road and Markoe Road, and cleared the previous false alarm.
Dispatch then alerted units for a reported barn fire in the 16400 block of Markoe Road.
Units arrived and operated on the scene for over three hours, and were able to bring the fire under control, said Hereford Volunteer Fire Company officials.
The fire caused the roof to collapse, and spread to a connected secondary barn structure.
The fire was contained to the two original buildings, and $20,000 worth of saddles and horse tack were removed from a third nearby barn.
There were no injuries reported, and all animals and residents were accounted for.
Due to the rural location in Monkton, one engine operated for about 13 minutes before another engine arrived to assist.
