Ravens take over SECU stadium at the University of Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (7News) — During most Saturdays, SECU Stadium on the campus of the University of Maryland is a sea of red.

On this day, though, purple and black were the popular color combination. The event marks a milestone as the first-ever NFL practice at the stadium.

Even more importantly for the franchise, it’s the first time the Baltimore Ravens held a training camp practice in Prince George’s County.

Fans flocked to the campus, while the Ravens players enjoyed the unique experience.

“Shout out to the fans. I was really surprised to see how many players came out for a practice,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson told 7News Sports Director Scott Abraham. “It was dope. It was a dope experience. I love Flock Nation. Love all the supporters. Let’s bring it over to the preseason games as well.”

This past April, the NFL passed a resolution updating the league’s BV-1 policy, which governs how teams market, sell sponsorships and activate their respective brands.

The new framework expanded the Ravens’ home marketing area, giving the organization formal access to Maryland’s Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, both of which will be shared with the Washington Commanders.

On Monday, the Ravens will return to their team headquarters in Owings Mills to continue training camp. Their first preseason game will be at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. That game is set for Saturday, August 15th. You will be able to watch the game on 7News.
