Maryland woman accused of using senior’s identity to lease apartment in Waldorf

A Maryland woman was arrested for the second time in less than a week after detectives uncovered additional fraud and identity theft offenses, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives arrested Annaya Lisette Hines, 26, of Waldorf, on May 20 shortly after she was released from the Charles County Detention Center on electronic monitoring.

Authorities said Hines was initially arrested on May 14 on an active warrant. While she was in custody, detectives served her with a criminal summons tied to an investigation involving stolen banking information, theft, and fraud.

She was later released on electronic monitoring and listed a Waldorf apartment as her residence.

Shortly after her release, detectives determined Hines had allegedly leased that apartment using the stolen identity of an elderly woman who did not know her.

Investigators said the elderly woman was also the same victim Hines stole more than $10,000 from in a fraud case in another jurisdiction two years earlier.

Although Hines had been placed on probation in that case, detectives said she continued using the victim’s personal information.

Detectives also learned rent had not been paid on the Waldorf apartment for more than two months, resulting in an estimated $7,000 loss to the apartment owner.

Officers responded to the apartment listed on Hines’ release paperwork and arrested her at the scene.
