MONTGEOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Montgomery County councilmember Will Jawando is recovering in the hospital after a heart attack over the weekend.
According to a statement by his office, Jawando had the heart attack while playing basketball Saturday morning. He was rushed to George Washington University Hospital, and had to get a stent.
“His doctors are confident in his full recovery given his strong overall health,” the statement said.

Jawando is expected to be released from the hospital later this week and return home to his wife and kids. He will adjust his schedule moving forward, but his office will remain open.
“Councilmember Jawando and his family are grateful to God for the friends who acted quickly and to the exceptional doctors, nurses, and staff at The George Washington University Hospital. They are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from neighbors, colleagues, and supporters from across the county and state,” the statement said.
Jawando has served as an at-large member of the county’s council since 2018, and is the Democratic nominee for Montgomery County Executive.
Current County Executive Marc Elrich released a statement in response to the news of Jawando’s heart attack, writing:
”I was very concerned to hear about Councilmember Will Jawando’s heart attack this weekend, and I’m relieved that he received immediate care and is doing well. I’m wishing Will a full and speedy recovery and hope he takes the time he needs to rest and get healthy. My thoughts are with Michele, their children, and the entire Jawando family. I also want to thank the friends who acted quickly and the doctors, nurses, and staff at George Washington University Hospital who cared for him. We all look forward to seeing Will back on his feet soon.”
