BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Professor Trash Wheel made its long-awaited return to the Baltimore Inner Harbor on Thursday, escorted by open-water swimmer Katie Pumphrey.
Pumphrey, an ultramarathon open-water swimmer, artist and the founder of Baltimore Open Water Swimmers, guided Professor Trash Wheel back to its post, pairing two of Baltimore’s most recognizable clean-water champions.
“It was a warm swim, but it was beautiful. Baltimore, looking gorgeous as always. I love swimming from Fort McHenry in to see the skyline come into view was always really cool.” Pumphrey said in an interview. “The water felt great. I did hit a couple of jellyfish, so lots of things happening out there today. It was a warm day. The wind was really lovely, and Professor was shining brightly with her giant eyelashes. It really was a fun swim.”
A beloved member of the Trash Wheel family, Professor Trash Wheel is designed to stop litter and debris before it can flow into the Chesapeake Bay.
