BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD (WBFF) — Some Baltimore County Council members are questioning why former County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr.’s role in arranging a controversial private meeting between his chief of staff and the county’s inspector general at a cafe was not disclosed until years after the encounter triggered litigation, outside investigations and more than $125,000 in taxpayer costs.
Olszewski, now a U.S. representative, told The Baltimore Sun through a spokesperson last week that he and senior members of his Democratic administration supported the March 2021 meeting between then-Chief of Staff Patrick Murray and Inspector General Kelly Madigan after county employees complained about the watchdog’s investigative tactics.
Madigan, who has since become Howard County’s IG, previously said Murray used the meeting to try to quash an investigation she was conducting.
The spokesperson’s statement was the first public acknowledgment of Olszewski’s involvement.
