BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — Baltimore County residents will see taxes remain the same, along with continued increases in school and public safety spending under a $4.96 billion fiscal 2027 budget approved Thursday.
The County Council approved County Executive Kathy Klausmeier’s operating budget without a single spending cut from her original proposal. Under the county charter, the council can’t add or reallocate funds to the budget, only make cuts.
Most of the council, down to six members following Republican Councilman Wade Kach’s resignation earlier this month, agreed with the budget as proposed and did not offer any changes — though Councilman Izzy Patoka, a Pikesville Democrat who’s running for county executive, previously attempted to propose cuts totaling $1 million across three agencies to reallocate to the school system.
Council Chair Mike Ertel, a Towson Democrat, said Thursday that the council “did not see the prudence in offering cuts this year” — pointing to both the spending priorities addressed in the proposal and the auditor’s positive analysis of it.
