BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A large pool of stormwater continued to cover part of Interstate 83 South near the President Street exit Thursday morning, two days after heavy thunderstorms swept through the Baltimore region.
The standing water covered much of the left lane at the bottom of the highway, forcing motorists to merge into the adjacent lane to avoid driving through it. Although some of the water had receded since Tuesday night’s storms, enough remained Thursday to disrupt traffic.
A spokesperson for the Baltimore City Department of Public Works confirmed the water is leftover storm runoff, not the result of a water main break or other infrastructure failure. The department’s maintenance crews are investigating the cause of the standing water.
It was not immediately clear whether the flooding contributed to any crashes. Baltimore City police referred questions to the Maryland State Police, which patrols I-83. A state police spokesperson said there were no reported crashes for that part of the road as of Thursday.
