Bill Ferguson has won the Democratic nomination for Maryland’s State Senate District 46 seat and will advance to the general election in November.

Ferguson, 43, defeated challenger Bobby LaPin in the Democratic primary to secure the nomination.

The longtime lawmaker currently serves as President of the Maryland Senate and has represented the Baltimore-based district since 2011. He became the youngest state senator in Maryland history when he was first elected at age 27. Before entering politics, Ferguson worked as a teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools.

According to his campaign website, “Bill has successfully led passage of legislation that supports educational equity, thriving neighborhoods, working families, and economic success for all Marylanders.”

Throughout the campaign, Ferguson focused on the following:

Strong public schools that prepare students for success

A growing economy that supports working families and small businesses

Affordable housing and vibrant neighborhoods

Safe communities with investments in public safety

Continued progress on clean energy and environmental initiatives

Now, Ferguson will move on to the general election as he seeks another term representing the 46th District in the Maryland Senate.
